In the first half of 2008, for the first time in the ten years during which Hospital Watch has been tracking hospital utilization, the average length of stay did not decline -- it remained flat. This issue, which tracks trends through June 2008, also notes the effect of three hospitals closing in the previous year. and presents other data on hospital utilization, staffing, and finances.
