United Hospital Fund is working to advance New York City as a major center of innovation in health care quality and safety.
Quality health care begins with excellent medical care, but it also depends on the ability of health care providers to share enormous amounts of data, in order to better serve patients, clinicians, purchasers, and health care organizations.
Through its New York Quality Strategies Initiative, the Fund is providing the organizational structure that will guide continued investment in health care information technology and its implementation across the health care system, working to ensure that as information technology is diffused, health care providers and plans are able to communicate effectively with one another.
Through another component of this initiative, the Fund is also helping service providers implement quality improvement activities and redesign the way they provide services, to make evidence-based medicine and increased patient safety standard practice.
An important vehicle for exchanging ideas and sharing best practices are conferences, such as:
"Quality Strategies/Quality Programs," held July 17, 2007 (presentations)
"Health Care Services in New York: Research and Practices," held October 17, 2007 (presentations), and
"New Opportunities, Tough Choices: Health Care in New York," held December 4, 2007 (presentations).
