To sustain and enhance the quality improvement infrastructure developed through the Greater New York Hospital Association/United Hospital Fund partnership by expanding existing collaborative activities and designing and implementing an innovative regional quality improvement training curriculum to engage and prepare clinical “champions.” The multi-year initiative focuses on clinical quality improvement related to central line-associated bloodstream infections and other hospital-acquired infections, rapid response systems, and perinatal safety; education on teamwork and communication issues, including use of the innovative SBAR—situation-background-assessment-recommendation—technique; development of a “culture of safety”; and the Critical Care Leadership Network to further define needs and opportunities.
