Building on earlier analytic work (studying the interaction among changing patterns of utilization of hospital services, the movement from a regulated financing system to a more market driven system, and the financial status and future viability of the city's hospitals), three new studies will be conducted focusing on rising health care costs in New York State and New York City, current approaches to financing and delivering health care services that match the clinical needs of patients, and lessons learned from major delivery systems that have undertaken substantial reform and redesign. The new studies will provide a framework for upcoming United Hospital Fund invitational events with New York health policy leaders to stimulate support for new approaches to financing reform.
