Amount: $30,000

To address the effects of undiagnosed depression among Medicaid home care recipients, United Hospital Fund has launched a new two-year project, "Connecting Care Systems: Dealing with Depression in a Home Care Population," to ensure that home care recipients are routinely screened for depression and that those who need mental health treatment are referred for care. Through this grant, project staff will test the feasibility of making depression screening a manageable component of the city's service authorization process for home care services. Project staff and Fund staff will work together to design and implement the project's overall evaluation strategy, provide clinical consultation for the participating certified home health agency (CHHA) as it develops standardized clinical assessment and documentation protocols, and conduct training sessions for the New York City Human Resources Administration and CHHA staff in how to use clinical protocols and tools for depression screening and assessment.
