In this second phase of a New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC) initiative to implement evidence-based processes to improve patient outcomes in intensive care units at 11 hospitals, HHC will work to achieve improvements in the following areas: strengthening nursing's role in implementing and sustaining new practices in the ICU, improving multi-disciplinary communication, and enhancing the capacity to collect and review needed data to track performance. This phase of the project will develop products, such as central-line insertion kits, to be purchased system-wide, a nursing curriculum for improvements in reducing central line-associated bloodstream infections and ventilator-associated pneumonia, and system-wide protocols for clinical care, such as weaning patients off of ventilators.
