At its 2009 Gala, the United Hospital Fund honored extraordinary health care leaders who support hospitals and health care in New York.  The Health Care Leadership Award was presented to James S. and Merryl H. Tisch in recognition of hospital, health care, and community leadership.  The Distinguished Community Service Award was presented to J. Ira Harris, founder of the Harris Obesity Prevention Effort (HOPE) at NYU Langone Medical Center.  The Fund also paid special tribute to Lee H. Perlman, President of GNYHA Ventures, Inc.
